Kyle’s first official business endeavor lasted 10 incredibly fun (and extraordinarily difficult) years. From scratch, he started the preeminent independent sports media organization covering Oklahoma State athletics and recruiting. In November 2020, he sold the business to his first full-time employee, Marshall Scott, who continues to run it.
This was my baby. I had no idea what I was doing when I hit “publish” for the first time (which I have written about at length), and then I hit publish nearly 10,000 more times over the next decade. It delivered so many lessons on what it means to be a professional, what it means to be a boss and what it means to truly build something from nothing. I’m very proud to have taken this leap — oftentimes it felt like a leap into the abyss — and even more proud to have had so many terrific people take it with me.
When I began in 2011, I could not have known how that first Friday of writing would irrevocably change my life forever. To think about it now is to feel a weight heavier than I would have wanted to bear at the time, and it is a good gift to not have known what was to come. I just wanted to write some words about Justin Gilbert and Markel Brown that would make people laugh. -KP
